HCl and Al powder is an extremely exothermic reaction, giving off hydrogen gas. The mixture gets very hot indeed, giving out heat energy.

Alright, we will start off with the meaning of endothermic and exothermic.





When a process is said to be endothermic, it means it absorbs heat in order for its reacton to happen. If you touch it with your own hand, you will feel cold as heat is absorbed from your hand.





When a process is said to be exothermic, it means it releases heat in order for its reaction to happen. If you touch it with your own hand, you will feel hot as heat is transferred to your hand.





When aluinium powder, hydrogen chloride gas and water is mixed together, it will react with some burning and release heat. Therefore, this chemical reaction is known as exothermic as it releases heat.





As for acetone, it is a volatile liquid, meaning it evaporates easily with the pressence of heat. Therefore, when heat is given to acetone, it will absorb the heat and evaporate into gas. Therefore, this reaction is known as endothermic reaction.
