You are gonna have to have them sandblasted. Powder coat is baked on like a ceramic glaze. Whats the easiest way to remove the powder coat from my alloys?
Media Blast, Have them repainted and clear coated or polished.



toothpaste left on for a few days will dissolve it.

its hard if you dont media blast them. but acetone will work the second best

I have had both and I found that the powder coated ones keep a more even heat and use less gas. For some reason the stainless steel units tend to dissipate the heat a lot quicker. It also lasts longer and is easier to keep clean.

How much would it cost to get a mountain bike professionally resprayed? eg, powder coat?

I've just brought a second hand bike and it needs a respray really bad. I've been searching on the net for do it yourself methods, and most of the forums suggest that DIY will end up costing similar to a pro job, like powder coating. I just want one solid colour. sometime if you take this to a dealer who sells the same brand you can have it resprayed by the factory professionally. like i know trek does this for there bikes. they will offer some paint choices and you let the factory do it. go find a shop that sells this bike and ask them if they involve in this. otherwise it would be my idea to take this to a car body shop and they might do it/

Again, not knowing your specific power coat material and application, only a rough guess like this is possible.
