Would powder coating a bmx frame and baking it on in an oven weaken the frame?

When a frame has already been put through special heat processes to lighten the frame? (i.e. Super Therm Air Hardening)Would powder coating a bmx frame and baking it on in an oven weaken the frame?
Thats a VERY good question, and the answer is no.

Powder coating is not like paint... it is powder that is applied with a special gun. This powder is then ';melted'; onto the frame using heat- but the heat is nowhere near what is necessary to damage the frame.

Your frame was not lightened by virtue of the air hardening process, but it was made stronger. The material actually gets stronger as it cools.Would powder coating a bmx frame and baking it on in an oven weaken the frame?
No. I do powder coating. The temp. is not that high, only 450deg. for a couple minutes then down to 350 for 20 min.

And a special heat process will not lighten metal, you can not change the composition of metal by heat. Heat treating will harden and or temper the metal not lighten it.

no your frame will be fine . i am assuming of course by size that you have access to a dedicated oven for the process and will not be using the one in your kitchen
