How do you clean and polish Powder Coated Chrome?

I have a motorcycle that has a powder coated frame. What can I use to get it cleaned and shining? It is very very dull right now...How do you clean and polish Powder Coated Chrome?
Mel - pie u said powder coat chrome.... u mean paint. If it is really dull get some Dupont white polish compound and HAND RUB till the milky surface is gone. Then use turtle wax.

I used a compound called TR-3 years ago and it worked well too, but haven't seen it in years. Remember HAND! These compounds will take all the paint off pretty quick with an electric buffer. How do you clean and polish Powder Coated Chrome?
There is no such thing as powder coated chrome. If its chrome use Mothers Mag and Aluminum cleaner. If it's powder coat use most any auto cleaner.
Pro Honda Cleaner + Polish, comes in an aerosol can. Most amazing thing ever invented since Red Bull
Powder coats are pretty stong, I would think any quality paint polish would do. Maybe check local body shop

What is the difference between a powder coated metal, and a thermo-enamelled one?

For example in the process, cost, finished look (glossy or matt), durability etc. What is the difference between a powder coated metal, and a thermo-enamelled one?
the thermal enamel is thicker therfore more durable but its not as flexible so it depends on what its used for

for vehicles for example its better to use powder coat because of the vibration

the thermal enamel is more glossy and also more expensive of course you can pick a flat enamel as well stove grates for a gas stove have thermal enamel on themWhat is the difference between a powder coated metal, and a thermo-enamelled one?
Powder coating is essentially plastic, and flexible.

Thermo-enamel is basically glass, which is not very flexible, easy to chip, but susceptible to higher heat.

Can i powder coat the rims on my car pink even tho it is a lease?

is there a way to take the paint off?Can i powder coat the rims on my car pink even tho it is a lease?
You can but you will pay dearly for it when you turn in the car at the end of your lease. Can i powder coat the rims on my car pink even tho it is a lease?
Diane is correct. You can do whatever you want to a leased car ( and as long as you buy it when the lease is due, it still won't matter ). However, if you plan on walking away from the vehicle at the end of the lease, the leasing company will want to restore the car back to original so you may be on the hook to replace all 4 rims at that time.
Powder coating isn't paint. It's impossible to restore the surface ti it's original condition.
I agree with the above person. They will charge you as much as possible for it.

Actual powder coating takes very little time, however the prep work before the powder coating can take some time.

Depending on the amount of work the company has on you could expect to wait between three days and two weeks.

Ja.How long does it take to powder coat alloys?
Anyone willing to powder coat your wheels will do the prep work. This is because they'll need to be sandblasted to prep the surface.

It can take a few hours to bake the coating on. Otherwise, it wouldn't get a good bond to your wheel.

What might take a while is the amount of work a company has. It would depend on their back log of work. Most companies maintain this so they can keep their employees busy.

Stainless is forever. Powder coat is very durable but can still be scratched and even chipped.Which do you think is better for a gas grill? One with a powder coated finish or one with stainless steel?
I have had both and I found that the powder coated ones keep a more even heat and use less gas. For some reason the stainless steel units tend to dissipate the heat a lot quicker. It also lasts longer and is easier to keep clean.

What is the weight of a powder coat paint job?

I need to determine the weight of a powder coat paint job.

All I know is the square footage of the paintjob (i.e. 6.6 sqft).

Any ideas? What is the weight of a powder coat paint job?
Do you know the density? What is the weight of a powder coat paint job?
There are least 7 different base materials/resins used for powder coating, and obviously, coating thickness of the job (can range from 25um to 80um depending upon the application) has a dramatic effect on the weight of the end result.

A pound of powder will typically cover between 50 and 100 square feet, so for your 6.6, I'd estimate anywhere between 1/16# and 1/8# of material.

Again, not knowing your specific power coat material and application, only a rough guess like this is possible.

How do I control rust on a powder-coated gun barrel?

I own a Mossberg 500 'Breecher' shotgun with a powder coat finish on it. I've had it about two years now and have recently noticed what looks like a dusting of rust on the barrel and the magazine tube after every couple of weeks or so. I don't want to use any abrasive wools as I don't want to ruin the finish of the powder coating. Also, as it is powder coated, I don't want to smear it with gun oil either. Any advise would be appreciated. How do I control rust on a powder-coated gun barrel?
Break Free CLP is excellent. It will remove the rust, and prevent furture rusting.

I was at a competition trap shoot for a weekend, camping in a van. No heat, no nothing. I didn't know what it would be like the first night..but.. It was in the 60's during the day, in the 30's at night, and next to the Great Lakes. I slept with my gun propped against the wall (unloaded obviously) next to my cot...I should've known better. I get up and start getting ready to go out and shoot when I noticed my gun (with a matte, sort of powder-coat textured finish) went from blue to orange. I had to go shoot, but then came back and wiped it all down with Break Free CLP. The rust disappeared, the gun looked great, like nothing happened. Didn't have any more trouble with condensation building up and causing rust..

Put some Break Free on 12ga cotton patches and rub it on nice and generous. Then use a cotton rag (old t-shirt) to rub it in/off. Works wonders. How do I control rust on a powder-coated gun barrel?
    Oil it.

One of the advantages of the matte finishes like the powdercoat and Parkerizing is that it holds onto the oily protective film better than hard gloss finishes. It's supposed to be protected with an oil. I like Breakfree CLP, as I find it last longer.
Even a powder coated barrel needs to be wiped down with oil to prevent rust. Would you rather have a rusted barrel, or one that has a protective coating of oil applied?
D J gave you good advice. Break Free is one of the best rust preventatives you can buy.

How much does it cost to get my motorcycle rims powder coated gold?

I have a Suzuki gsxr 600 and i wanna get the rims gold

what do i have to do? %26amp;%26amp; how much is itHow much does it cost to get my motorcycle rims powder coated gold?
This not a ';one size fits all'; question. Because different shops will charge different amounts. The process includes removing the tires and wheel bearings. Then sand blasting the rims then masking the areas that don't get paint. Because the wheels are baked/heated to fuse the paint to the wheel, you don't use regular masking tape for masking. Most powder coat shops will do the blasting, masking and painting for less that what you would pay at a bike shop. If the powder coating shop does not do their own blasting, they can refer you to some business that does blasting. It would also be a good idea to mask the wheel bearing cavities, races and valve stem hole before sand blasting to make sure nothing gets damaged by the sand blasting.

You should look up ';powder coating'; in your local phone directory and call some of the shops to see what they will charge. I had some custom racks painted at a shop in a big city shop that cost a great deal more than getting some engine and frame parts powder coated at another shop in a much smaller community. So shop around. How much does it cost to get my motorcycle rims powder coated gold?

Absolutely not. Any truthful powder coater worth his salt will be honest with you. The ends of leaf springs are friction surfaces. Now there is a way around this. There are companies who make Teflon and other plastic slider surfaces at the ends of the leaf stack.

We have a powder-coating company in town and the owner is a metallurgist. He will not touch or guaranty anything unless it's a very pure ';clean'; metal such ar chromoly or shelby tubing. He won't do aluminum wheels because of the garbage they make them of.

I'm trying to remove a poor quality Powder Coat off of a car frame that I have... Does anyone know how I can remove the powder coating off of the frame? How to remove Powder Coat from a Car Frame?
Sand blasting is gonna be your best bet i think. o sanding it down with an orbital or the like....Sand blasting probably faster thoughHow to remove Powder Coat from a Car Frame?
Sand or media blasting would be your best bet. Media blasting would better protect the metal substrate, while sand blasting will add a little better surface preparation than media.

Regardless, you will not want to waste too much time with recoating it as you will have a bare metal surface that could begin to corrode quickly (although mildly). Make sure whoever recoats it uses either a liquid zinc-rich primer followed by a liquid topcoat. The other option is to re-powder coat with a zinc-rich powder so as to provide the best protection for your frame. Your coater should also pretreat the frame with a good iron phosphate followed by a rinse - don't buy it if they tell you they don't need to rinse the pretreatment chemical off before coating!

The ultimate would be to zinc phosphate followed by an ecoat, but I doubt you will find that option available for a frame recoat job...so go with a reputable powder coater or custom coater in your area - do some homework...find the one that works the most with racing teams or does high-end custom motorcycles - they usually know their stuff. Ask to see some of their work before committing...

    Good Luck!
Media blasting would be your best bet. I'm assuming a body isn't mounted to the frame. Your other option would be to sand the imperfections you don't like out and then repaint it. Without knowing what the actual problem is with the powder coat, it's difficult to suggest an appropriate action.

How to fix a dent in an aluminium, powder coated white folding sliding door?

We have just installed some white aluminium, powder coated folding sliding doors. Just one day after installation, my partner folded them back whilst leaving the key in the lock. The area of damage is about the size of a 5 pence piece, however, because the rest of the surface is so pristine, it looks very bad. Many thanks. How to fix a dent in an aluminium, powder coated white folding sliding door?
if you can find some spray paint the same color take a piece of cardboard and make a small irregular shaped hole in it. cover any glass or other parts you don't want sprayed then lightly spray it with several light coats. works on appliances also. you can fill in the dent with auto body fillerHow to fix a dent in an aluminium, powder coated white folding sliding door?
I'm sorry I am a little ignorant but I do not know what a 5 pence piece looks like nor do I know what type of sliding door(closet, garage, tool shed, etc.) you are talking about. However, I may try fixing the dent by using a ';C'; clamp. These clamps come in many sizes and all you need is to place a clamp on the dent and tighten until the dent is straighten out. Sometimes if the dent is larger than you place a piece of metal on both sides of clamp and tighten until straighten. If you cannot get a clamp on the door, remove door and lay on ground with wooden block on the bottom of dent and hammer on top of dent utilizing wood. Do not hammer directly on door, hammer on wood. Sand area and spray paint utilizing metal paint. Good Luck!
In construction , when metal doors %26amp; frames get dented

Bondo (auto body putty) is used .

It adheres well %26amp; the dent can be filled %26amp; sanded flush w/ the surrounding area.

Can't hurt to try spot painting , but it is difficult to match the

    powder coat finish.

If you get a good color match ,might try an auto polishing compound to blend in the patch as best you can.

Another option might be to put a guard or rub rail across the doors if there is danger of a repeat.

    Yes
I would not use powder coating to line a drum for drinking water.

While largely water resistant, in the long term it will succumb to the presence of water and oxygen. While the the coating is technically solid and very durable - if not VERY well applied you will likely have microscopic holes in the surface of the coating. Plus at that base of the drum you could run into Farady Cage issues and get very low coating thickness in the corners.

  • Would powder coating a bmx frame and baking it on in an oven weaken the frame?

When a frame has already been put through special heat processes to lighten the frame? (i.e. Super Therm Air Hardening)Would powder coating a bmx frame and baking it on in an oven weaken the frame?
Thats a VERY good question, and the answer is no.

Powder coating is not like paint... it is powder that is applied with a special gun. This powder is then ';melted'; onto the frame using heat- but the heat is nowhere near what is necessary to damage the frame.

Your frame was not lightened by virtue of the air hardening process, but it was made stronger. The material actually gets stronger as it cools.Would powder coating a bmx frame and baking it on in an oven weaken the frame?
No. I do powder coating. The temp. is not that high, only 450deg. for a couple minutes then down to 350 for 20 min.

And a special heat process will not lighten metal, you can not change the composition of metal by heat. Heat treating will harden and or temper the metal not lighten it.
    qeqr
no your frame will be fine . i am assuming of course by size that you have access to a dedicated oven for the process and will not be using the one in your kitchen

Powder coating is not a paint type of finish. It is more of a plastic finish that is sprayed on via an electrostatic gun. The powder is just that, fine powder that is sprayed from a gun. It is then baked in an oven for around 30 min @ 400 degrees F. This allows the powder to ';flow out'; %26amp; appear as if it was painted on. Powder coat finishes are about 7 times more durable then a painted finish.

Can powder-coating be buffed with polishing compound?

My '98 Cobra's yellow wheels have dulled since I had them done early last year. If polishing works, should I start keeping them waxed? Can powder-coating be buffed with polishing compound?
should of waxed the wheels before dullness happened some time the baking process on powder coated finishes are more porus and waxing does not help. Polishing a hard surface like baked on coatings doesn't do much either. Nice Car wanta race my 2006 GTO?Can powder-coating be buffed with polishing compound?
you can wax them to help keep the shine longer and yes you can buff them but remember that every time you buff anything painted you take a little paint off each time you do it.
you can keep them polished with compound. but my best advise would be to get them clean and then rinse them more frequently.

Does anyone know where I can find a ';suggested price list'; for powder coating services??

We want to do some powder coating in our small town, alot of people want us to do some things for them, but we don't really know what to charge them. I cannot find a suggested price list for this kind of service. any help would be greatly appreciated.Does anyone know where I can find a ';suggested price list'; for powder coating services??
Services don't usually have a ';suggested'; price. When you supply a service, you can charge whatever your experience level and desire to work allows. A person with a lot of experience or advanced training can charge a lot more than someone new to the business. A person with a lot of existing clients also may charge more since they don't really need the work, but someone just starting in the business needs to get the experience and will charge less.

If there are any other people who do the same work in your area, you can try calling them, but you probably won't get a direct answer. Most people providing services won't give a quote over the phone to protect their pricing from local competitors.

I would also just use High Temperature paint. Powder coating is a waste. What happens when you need a rebuilt caliper? It's far easier to paint a rebuilt one than to powder coat itPowder Coating Break Calipers?
don't do it thair right !!!!!!
Well the calipers can be painted with heat resistent paint and most of those are metallic. and the powder coating is cool too. but if you have the brembo logo why do u want to paint on it?
The powder coating is baked on for a while at a high temperature in order for it to go from powder to liquid to solid. The caliper would need total disassembly and very careful masking to be done right,a job for the manufacturer.
